Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy encompasses the treatment of conditions ranging from simple injuries, such as a sprained ankle, to complex problems involving multiple areas of the body and chronic pain.
It also plays an important role in the post-operative rehabilitation of many orthopaedic conditions. Musculoskeletal physiotherapy can be highly effective in reducing pain and restoring strength, mobility and function.
Physiotherapy research, much of which has been conducted in Australia, has demonstrated the important role of targeted exercise in the treatment of injury and chronic pain. Exercise programs may combine a tailored home program with supervised gym-based rehabilitation and are designed to meet the individual needs of each patient.
Programs can be specifically adapted for people experiencing movement dysfunction, reduced muscle control, or decreased strength and endurance of the stabilising muscles of the trunk and limbs. This personalised approach helps patients regain confidence in movement, improve physical capacity and support a lasting return to normal activity.
