We are so happy for Dr Zen Yap for winning the 2021 Ramazzini Prize for the best national scientific paper related to Occupational and Environmental Medicine (OEM) presented by an Australasian Faculty of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (AFOEM) trainee.
Dr Yap’s paper was titled :
Social determinants of health and surgical outcomes for chronic lower back pain: a systematic review.
The study showed that poorer outcomes post lumbar spine surgery for chronic back pain is associated with :
- low levels of education
- poorer socioeconomic status and
- occupation type
By completing her research, Dr Yap will become a Specialist Occupational Physician in a few weeks, and we would like to congratulate her on her dual achievement.
